What was announced

Fresh images shared by a Reddit user show the production-spec Kia Syros EV parked on a public road in Bengaluru, reportedly during a television commercial shoot. Unlike the heavily camouflaged test mules seen earlier, this car wears no camouflage at all, giving the clearest real-world look yet at the electric version of Kia's smallest India-market SUV.

An undisguised car on a TVC shoot is not a spy story, it is Kia telling us the launch is days away.

Finished in silver, the Syros EV retains the boxy silhouette of the ICE Syros but swaps the conventional grille for a closed-off front fascia, a standard styling cue for Kia's electric models. The images also reveal a brief glimpse of the cabin. The sighting follows a recent leak that outlined the model's expected battery specifications and claimed driving range, though Kia India has not officially confirmed either figure yet.

The Syros EV will share its underpinnings and powertrain hardware broadly with the Hyundai group's small-EV platform strategy, and is expected to be positioned above the Sonet EV plans and below Kia's larger EV5. It will compete directly with the Hyundai Creta Electric, the Tata Curvv EV, the Mahindra BE 6, and the incoming Maruti e-Vitara in the mid-size electric SUV segment. An undisguised car being used for a TVC shoot on a public road is a strong signal that the media reveal and launch are days, not months, away. Kia India has not issued an official statement on the sighting or the launch timeline.

The Car Jury verdict

Kia has effectively already revealed the Syros EV; a TVC shoot on a public road with zero camouflage is not an accident, it is a soft launch. Expect a reveal within weeks and prices in the 18 to 22 lakh rupee ex-showroom band, slotting between the Sonet EV plans and the larger EV5. The Syros ICE is already a polarising design, and the closed-off front on the EV doubles down on it. Buyers cross-shopping this with the Creta Electric and the upcoming Maruti e-Vitara should hold fire until Kia confirms battery size and range officially.

Rachit Hirani of MotorOctane notes that Kia is now running EVs alongside ICE in the same nameplate, which sharpens showroom choice but also splits volumes. If you want a Kia SUV today, our Seltos and Sonet verdicts still stand.
