Kia Sorento India Reveal: Hybrid AWD Flagship Lands September 4
Kia has officially revealed the India-spec Sorento ahead of its September 4 launch, confirming strong-hybrid and diesel powertrains, AWD on the hybrid, and production start at Anantapur. It becomes Kia India's new ICE flagship, its first three-row ICE SUV here, and its first hybrid for the country.

It will sit above the Carnival as Kia India's ICE flagship, and is the brand's first three-row ICE SUV and first hybrid for the Indian market. Autocar India expects ex-showroom pricing in the Rs 30 lakh to Rs 35 lakh band, helped by high localisation.
A hybrid AWD three-row seven-seater under Rs 35 lakh has no direct rival in India, provided Kia doesn't get greedy on pricing.
The India car uses the current global Sorento that has been on sale since 2023, so it does not adopt Kia's newer 'Opposites United' design language seen on the latest Seltos. Two powertrains are confirmed: a strong-hybrid and a diesel. Crucially, the strong-hybrid variant gets all-wheel drive, a configuration no direct rival in the segment currently offers. The diesel's drivetrain configuration has not been detailed at reveal.
Feature highlights confirmed for India include a Level 2 ADAS suite, a powered tailgate, and a 360-degree camera. The Sorento will also debut Kia's AI assistant, a first for the nameplate globally, launching on the India-spec car. Seating is three rows. Full variant-wise pricing, warranty terms and booking details are due at the September 4 launch event.
The Car Jury verdict
The Sorento arrives with real weapons: a hybrid AWD three-row at an expected Rs 30-35 lakh ex-showroom undercuts the Toyota Innova Hycross AWD (which doesn't exist) and sidesteps the Fortuner's fuel bill. The catch is that this is not a fresh car. Faisal Khan of FasBeam notes that despite the new-generation billing, "only design changes and feature changes have been done to this car," flagging that the underlying platform is 2023 vintage.
That still works in India, where the segment lacks a hybrid AWD seven-seater under Rs 40 lakh. If Kia lands closer to Rs 30 lakh, this is a serious Fortuner and MU-X alternative for buyers who want efficiency over image. If it drifts to Rs 35 lakh-plus, the value case narrows fast.
