Kia Teases Syros EV And Sorento Hybrid: The Electrified Push India Actually Needs
Kia India has released a teaser confirming that both a battery-electric and a hybrid model are inbound. The BEV is expected to be the Syros EV, debuting later this month, while the HEV badge points to a Sorento hybrid three-row SUV that has recently been spotted testing on Indian roads.

Kia India has put out a fresh teaser that prominently features the letters BEV and HEV, confirming that both a full-electric and a hybrid model are on the way. The first of these, the Kia Syros EV, has already been confirmed for a debut later this month and will slot in alongside the existing petrol and diesel Syros lineup.
A Syros EV plus a Sorento hybrid is the first time Kia India has attacked both electrification fronts at once, and both segments were waiting for it.
Reports suggest the Syros EV could be underpinned by the same platform as the global Hyundai Inster EV. If that pans out, buyers can expect two battery pack options, 42 kWh and 49 kWh, paired with an electric motor rated at up to 113 BHP and 147 Nm. Kia has not officially confirmed any of these numbers for the India-spec car yet.
The HEV badge in the teaser is widely tipped to be the Kia Sorento, which has been spotted testing in India. It is expected to arrive as a three-row SUV with a hybrid or plug-in hybrid powertrain. The global PHEV setup uses a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine mated to an electric motor, producing a combined 261 BHP and 350 Nm. Indian powertrain and specification details remain unconfirmed at this stage.

This is the right move at the right time. Kia has watched Mahindra and Tata split the sub-30 lakh EV space between them, while Toyota and Maruti quietly built a strong-hybrid moat in the family-SUV bracket. A Syros EV plugs the first gap; a Sorento hybrid finally gives Kia a genuine three-row hybrid weapon above the Carens, on which our current verdict is WAIT.
As Rachit Hirani of MotorOctane notes, brands are now launching "EV with ICE" side by side, and that dual-track approach is exactly what Kia needs here. The Syros EV, if it shares Hyundai Inster underpinnings, will land cheaper than the Creta EV and could pressure buyers currently defaulting to the Creta.
