Kia India has implemented its previously flagged price hike of up to 2 percent across its Indian portfolio, effective July 1, 2026. The Sonet, Seltos and Carens Clavis all get dearer, with the increase touching Rs 38,500 on the Seltos. Kia has cited rising commodity and logistics costs as the trigger.

What was announced

Kia India had flagged this hike in June 2026 and has now put it into effect from July 1, 2026, across its three mainstream nameplates: Sonet, Seltos and Carens Clavis. The company says higher input, commodity and logistics costs forced the move, and that it has absorbed a portion of the increase before passing the rest on to customers. The hike is capped at 2 percent of the ex-showroom price, and the actual rupee amount depends on the model, trim and powertrain combination.

The Seltos absorbs the biggest rupee hit, but at up to 2 percent of ex-showroom, none of the three Kias have been priced out of contention.

Kia SonetUp to Rs 18,400Up to 2%
Kia SeltosUp to Rs 38,500Up to 2%
Kia Carens ClavisUp to Rs 18,000 (approx.)Up to 2%

Hike amount varies by trim and by petrol, diesel or turbo-petrol powertrain. The Seltos absorbs the steepest rupee increase, while the Sonet compact SUV and Carens Clavis MPV see smaller revisions. All figures are ex-showroom.

The Car Jury verdict

This one hurts the Seltos buyer most. A Rs 38,500 bump on a mid-size SUV that is already priced at a premium over the Creta on higher trims chips away at the value case, and it lands right when the segment is more crowded than ever. Gagan Choudhary of Gagan Choudhary rightly points out that the 1.5 naturally aspirated petrol is now the most in-demand engine in this cluster, alongside the Grand Vitara and Elevate, and that is precisely where the Seltos still earns its keep. Our stance on the Seltos stays BUY, and the Sonet at up to Rs 18,400 dearer is still a BUY. The Carens Clavis stays WAIT: the hike is small, but the value proposition has not shifted enough.
