Honda ZR-V First Drive: Sports Hybrid Impresses, But Rs 50 Lakh CBU Price Is A Problem
Honda has given media a first taste of the ZR-V Sports Hybrid SUV at the Buddh International Circuit ahead of its India launch. The car will sit at the top of Honda Cars India's portfolio, arrive via the CBU route in a single fully loaded variant, and is expected to be priced around Rs 50 lakh.

Honda Cars India hosted a brief media drive of the ZR-V at the Buddh International Circuit ahead of the SUV's market introduction. The ZR-V is positioned as a Sports Hybrid SUV and will slot in above the Elevate as the new flagship of Honda's India range. It uses the same e:HEV strong hybrid philosophy already seen on the City e:HEV sedan, scaled up for an SUV body.
Honda is bringing a genuinely good Sports Hybrid to India via CBU, then asking buyers to pay entry-luxury SUV money for a Honda badge.
Pricing has not been announced, but the ZR-V is expected to land around Rs 50 lakh ex-showroom because it will be brought in via the CBU (Completely Built-Up) route rather than assembled locally. Honda is expected to offer it in a single fully loaded variant, with no lower trims planned at launch. That places it well above the Elevate and City in Honda's own lineup, and puts it in the price band of body-on-frame SUVs and entry luxury SUVs.
Four exterior colours will be offered at launch.

The Car Jury verdict
The ZR-V drives well, but Honda is walking into a fight it cannot win at Rs 50 lakh as a CBU. That budget in India today buys a Toyota Fortuner, a loaded Jeep Meridian, or gets a buyer into an entry BMW X1 or Mercedes GLA. Gagan Choudhary's observation that entry-luxury SUV buyers use their cars mostly in the city is exactly why the ZR-V is exposed: badge value drives that segment, and Honda's badge does not command a luxury premium here.
