What was announced

Skoda has published the full India brochure for the Kodiaq RS ahead of launch. Bookings are already open. The RS sits at the top of the Kodiaq line-up and is being positioned as the quickest Skoda model ever sold in India, with a claimed 0 to 100 km/h time of 6.3 seconds.

The Kodiaq RS is a halo to remind India that Skoda still does fast, not a sensible upgrade over the standard 204 PS Kodiaq.

Powertrain is a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic and a 4x4 all-wheel-drive setup. Outputs are sharply higher than the standard car, as the table shows.

RS-specific hardware likely includes a revised ECU calibration over the standard 204 PS tune. The exterior gets gloss black treatment across the grille, mirror caps, window surrounds, and badging, with RS-specific bumpers and alloy wheels. Skoda has not yet announced the ex-showroom price; the launch is imminent.

The Car Jury verdict

The Kodiaq RS is a halo, not a volume play. At an expected sticker well north of the standard Kodiaq, you are paying a steep premium for 61 extra PS, 80 extra Nm, gloss black trim, and bragging rights at the school pickup line. Skoda RS demand is real: Faisal Khan of FasBeam has gone on record praising Skoda's recent pricing discipline, and the Octavia RS limited run vanished in 20 minutes last October. That goodwill is what the Kodiaq RS is cashing in.

For most three-row buyers, the regular Skoda Kodiaq does the job. Only buy the RS if you specifically want a fast, family-shaped Skoda and accept the resale hit that comes with niche performance SUVs in India. Everyone else should stick with the standard Kodiaq or look at the Slavia.
