Renault, Nissan Sales May 2026: Duster Reboot And Gravite Carry The Alliance

Renault and Nissan both posted strong year-on-year growth in May 2026, powered by recently launched models. Renault's reborn Duster contributed 1,267 units in its first full month, while Triber stayed the brand's bestseller. Both brands, however, slipped month-on-month against April, with Kwid sliding sharply.
What was announced
Renault India sold 4,113 units in May 2026, a 64.39% year-on-year jump over the 2,502 units it managed in May 2025. Sequentially, however, volumes fell 24.02% from April 2026's 5,413 units. The headline story was the return of the Duster, which clocked 1,267 units in its first full month of sales and instantly took a 30.8% share of Renault's portfolio.
Duster grabbing 30.8% of Renault's portfolio in its first full month is the clearest signal that Indian buyers were waiting, not forgetting.
Triber remained the bestseller with 1,890 units, contributing 45.95% of Renault's total. Kiger held steady at 656 units, up 19.06% YoY, while Kwid continued to bleed share with a 44.44% YoY decline. Nissan's volumes were carried by the new Gravite, with Magnite providing the base.
| Model | Units (May 2026) | Share of Renault | YoY trend |
|---|---|---|---|
| Triber | 1,890 | 45.95% | Lead model |
| Duster | 1,267 | 30.80% | First full month |
| Kiger | 656 | 15.95% | +19.06% |
| Kwid | Balance | Remainder | -44.44% |
| Total | 4,113 | 100% | +64.39% |
Nissan Magnite and the newly launched Gravite drove the Japanese brand's volumes; exact unit splits for Nissan were not disclosed in the source release.
The Car Jury verdict
The May 2026 numbers confirm what we have been saying on the Duster review page: this nameplate still has pull in India, and Renault was right to bring it back. A 30.8% portfolio share in the first full month is not a fluke, it is a buyer base that waited. Team-BHP's line that the Renault Duster is back and Renault is not being subtle about it
captures the tone of the relaunch well. Our Duster verdict stays BUY.
Kwid's 44% YoY drop tells the other half of the story: Renault's entry car is out of road, and Biturbo Media is right to bracket it with the fading Tiago. On the Nissan side, Gravite is propping up volumes, but our Gravite verdict remains WAIT until the variant mix settles. Magnite stays the smarter BUY today.
