Renault Kiger Turbo Now Rs 1.46 Lakh Cheaper: Smart Move, Late Move

Renault has expanded the Kiger turbo-petrol manual lineup with a new Evolution+ Turbo variant priced at Rs 7.89 lakh, ex-showroom. The Techno Turbo, earlier sold only with a CVT, now also gets a manual option at Rs 8.45 lakh. The 1.0-litre turbo unit makes 100hp and 160Nm.
What was announced
Renault has restructured the Kiger turbo-petrol lineup with two changes. The new Evolution+ Turbo manual enters the range at Rs 7.89 lakh, ex-showroom, which is Rs 1.46 lakh less than the earlier turbo-MT entry point, the Emotion Turbo at Rs 9.35 lakh. The Techno Turbo, until now a CVT-only trim, also gets a manual gearbox at Rs 8.45 lakh.
The Kiger's 100hp turbo motor was always its best feature; it just sat behind a wall of variant tax that Renault has finally torn down.
The Evolution+ trim continues to be available with the 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol from Rs 6.99 lakh (MT) and Rs 7.45 lakh (AMT). The turbo unit on offer is the familiar 1.0-litre, 100hp, 160Nm three-cylinder. Equipment on Evolution+ includes push-button start/stop and automatic AC.

The Car Jury verdict
This is a long-overdue price correction on a Kiger that has been quietly losing ground to the Nissan Magnite and the Hyundai Exter turbo. Knocking Rs 1.46 lakh off the entry into the turbo lineup, and finally giving Techno Turbo buyers a manual, fixes two of the car's most obvious pricing gaps. The 100hp, 160Nm motor was always the Kiger's best feature; it just sat behind a wall of variant tax.
Gagan Choudhary of Gagan Choudhary has noted that the Kiger's boot space is genuinely impressive once you sit inside, even if rivals like the Duster look bigger on paper. That sums up the Kiger story: better than the brochure suggests, worse than the badge sells. At Rs 7.89 lakh with a turbo motor, push-button start and auto AC, it finally makes the shortlist again. Buy if you can live with thinner service reach.
