What was announced

Spinny and JSW MG Motor India have finalised a commercial agreement to create a structured resale ecosystem for pre-owned electric vehicles. The partnership targets the three biggest deal-breakers in the used EV market: battery degradation uncertainty, opaque residual valuation, and the absence of long-term diagnostic verification. Under the deal, Spinny will roll out specialised EV evaluation protocols across its retail network, developed with technical inputs from JSW MG Motor.

Residual value anxiety kills more EV purchases in India than range anxiety, and MG is the first mainstream brand to build a real secondary market for its cars.

The inspection framework is built around standardised battery health assessment and a certification process, giving both buyers and sellers a documented condition report before money changes hands. Certified pre-owned listings will initially cover MG's electric portfolio, including the Comet EV, Windsor EV and ZS EV, purchasable directly through Spinny's digital platform.

The launch spans 13 cities, listed below.

Pricing for individual certified units will be set by Spinny based on inspection outcomes; MG has not committed to a manufacturer-backed buyback guarantee at this stage.

The Car Jury verdict

This is the single biggest gap in India's EV story, and MG is the first mainstream brand to plug it seriously. Residual value anxiety kills more EV purchases than range anxiety does. If Spinny's battery certification is honest, Windsor EV and ZS EV owners finally have an exit route that isn't a lowball offer from a roadside dealer.

Rachit Hirani of MotorOctane has flagged how MG's product blitz sometimes outruns its ownership backbone, and Arun Panwar has questioned whether MG can match Toyota-grade reliability perception. This partnership answers that critique directly. It won't fix the Windsor EV's quirks or make the Hector a smarter buy new, but it makes a used MG EV genuinely considerable in 2026, especially when a Toyota EV alternative simply does not exist at these price points.
