Hyundai Motor India dispatched 39,635 units in June 2026, a 9.97% year-on-year drop, after a fire at a supplier facility disrupted component supply and squeezed production. The bigger headline inside the numbers: the Venue overtook the Creta to become Hyundai's best-selling model, with the Exter close behind.

What was announced

Hyundai Motor India reported wholesale dispatches of 39,635 units in June 2026, down 9.97% from 44,024 units in June 2025 and 17.15% lower than the 47,837 units billed in May 2026. Hyundai has attributed the drop to a fire at one of its supplier facilities, which temporarily choked component supply and constrained assembly output during the month. Despite the June setback, Q2 CY2026 volumes were 1,39,374 units, up 5.38% year-on-year, keeping the quarter in positive territory.

In Hyundai's worst month of the year, the Venue outsold the Creta. That is not a blip, that is the range's new centre of gravity.

The bigger structural story is the model mix. The Venue, historically the number two behind the Creta, became Hyundai's highest-selling model in June with 10,776 units, a 57.13% YoY jump, contributing over 27% of monthly volumes. The Exter kept its momentum at 8,154 units, up 38.84% YoY, cementing the entry-SUV as Hyundai's second pillar.

Creta, Aura, i10, i20, Verna and Alcazar volumes make up the balance; Hyundai has not broken out individual figures for every nameplate.

The Car Jury verdict

The Venue and Exter carrying Hyundai in a month when the Creta stumbled tells you where the volume gravity of this brand actually sits: sub-4-metre, sub-15-lakh, and increasingly petrol-first. Faisal Khan of FasBeam has been arguing that Hyundai's Indian scale is a different universe from where Honda ended up, and June's mix, even in a bad month, backs that up. Biturbo Media's blunt line that Hyundai cars just sell a lot is doing real work here.

For buyers, our stance is unchanged. The Venue is a BUY and clearly the sharpest product in the range right now. The petrol Creta is a WAIT with a facelift due, while the Creta Electric is a BUY. Supplier fire or not, the pecking order inside the showroom has shifted.
