Volvo EX90 lands in India on August 19: flagship EV, niche audience
Volvo India has confirmed that the EX90 electric SUV will make its India debut on August 19, 2026. It becomes the brand's second EV here after the EX40, and slots in as the global flagship, sitting alongside (not replacing) the petrol XC90 in Volvo's local line-up.

Volvo has confirmed August 19, 2026 as the India debut date for the EX90, its all-electric flagship SUV. The car sits on an 800V architecture and is offered with two battery packs and three power outputs, all capable of 350kW DC fast charging (10-80 percent in a claimed 22 minutes).
The EX90 is Volvo's most complete EV yet, but at flagship money in India it will move in tens, not hundreds, per month.

Dimensions are substantial: 5,037mm long, 1,964mm wide, 1,744mm tall, with a 2,985mm wheelbase, making it a genuine three-row SUV rather than a stretched five-seater. Styling is a clean break from the XC90, with flush surfaces, Volvo's signature Thor's Hammer LEDs reworked into a slimmer split unit, and a roof-mounted LiDAR pod feeding the driver-assistance suite. Prices and variant-wise India specification will be announced at the launch event.
The Car Jury verdict
The EX90 is a genuinely capable flagship, an 800V platform, 350kW charging, and a Performance trim that cracks 0-100kph in four seconds. On paper it goes toe to toe with the BMW iX and Mercedes EQS SUV. The problem is not the car, it is the maths. As Biturbo Media pointed out, "the sales of brands like Mini and Volvo are very low" in India, and a Rs 1.3 crore-plus electric Volvo is not the vehicle that fixes that. Buyers cross-shopping this money still gravitate to the Mercedes GLC or the petrol XC90. The EX90 will be a halo, not a volume play. If you specifically want a three-row luxury EV with Volvo's safety story, wait for on-road pricing on August 19 before committing.
