Mahindra Vision S Spied Testing In Spiti: The Sub-4m SUV That Actually Looks Ready
A camouflaged Mahindra Vision S prototype has been spotted in Kaza, Spiti Valley, at 3,650 metres, confirming high-altitude testing of the brand's upcoming sub-4-metre SUV. First shown as a concept in August 2025, the production model will sit above the XUV 3XO and offer petrol, diesel and electric powertrains.

Autocar India's spy source photographed the Mahindra Vision S prototype in Kaza, in Himachal Pradesh's Spiti Valley, at an altitude of 3,650 metres above sea level. High-altitude testing at this elevation stresses engine breathing, turbocharger behaviour, cooling systems and, on the EV variant, battery thermal management, all critical validation before a production sign-off.
A sub-4m SUV offering petrol, diesel and electric under one badge is a segment first, and Mahindra is testing it where buyers actually break cars.
The Vision S concept was first revealed in August 2025. The production-spec SUV will slot above the XUV 3XO in Mahindra's line-up and, unusually for a sub-4-metre offering, will be sold with petrol, diesel and electric powertrain options. That three-fuel strategy is rare in the segment: most rivals in the compact-SUV space have already dropped diesel or never offered an EV.
Spy shots reveal short overhangs, a boxy silhouette and flush door handles. The front carries Mahindra's new six-slat grille flanked by sleek LED headlamps, likely retaining the L-shaped signature from the concept. A muscular clamshell bonnet sits above a prominent lower air dam with a concealed centre trim, believed to house the radar module for an ADAS suite. A panoramic sunroof has also been confirmed. Design cues point to Mahindra pulling the Vision S visually closer to its Born Electric siblings rather than treating it as a cheaper afterthought. Pricing, variant structure and exact launch timing remain unconfirmed by Mahindra, but the depth of current testing suggests a reveal within the next 12 months is realistic.

Mahindra putting the Vision S through Spiti's thin air this early in its cycle tells us the launch timeline is real, not a 2028 vapourware situation. The three-powertrain plan is the sharper story.
