Mahindra Chakan Hits 3 Million Units: The BE 6 Rolls Off As Proof Of Pivot
Mahindra has confirmed that its Chakan facility in Maharashtra has rolled out its three-millionth vehicle, and the unit in question is a BE 6 electric SUV. The plant, operational since December 2009, has scaled sharply, with the most recent million units produced in just 27 months.

Mahindra announced on 16 July 2026 that its Chakan manufacturing complex in Maharashtra has produced its three-millionth vehicle, with the milestone unit being a BE 6, the brand's flagship electric SUV. The facility opened in December 2009 and has grown into one of the company's largest production hubs.
Chakan built its first million vehicles in 107 months. It built the last million in 27. That is the Mahindra turnaround, quantified.
The pace of output has accelerated sharply. The first million vehicles took 107 months to build. The most recent million came off the lines in just 27 months. Spread across 657 acres, Chakan currently produces 19 models and more than 450 variants across passenger vehicles, electric SUVs and commercial vehicles. Seven assembly lines run on a common production platform, giving the plant the flexibility to mix ICE and EV builds on shared infrastructure.
Mahindra says the facility uses Industry 4.0 systems, artificial intelligence, IoT, 5G-enabled connectivity and digital traceability. Around 1,500 robots are deployed across the plant, with body shop automation exceeding 98 percent. Robotic painting, automated sealant application, 3D inspection systems and real-time weld monitoring are in use across production lines. The choice of a BE 6 as the milestone vehicle is a deliberate signal that Chakan is now central to Mahindra's INGLO-based EV push, not just its ICE SUV portfolio, and that the same lines building Scorpio N and Thar Roxx are now feeding electric SUV volumes into the market.
