Tata Motors has released a promotional video that gives a complete look at the upcoming Sierra EV, just days ahead of its June 30 launch. The electric SUV largely mirrors its ICE sibling's design, with a subtly reworked fascia that uses colour to differentiate the EV from the petrol Sierra.

What was announced

Tata Motors has dropped a promotional video previewing the Sierra EV in full ahead of its June 30 launch. The exterior is largely carried over from the petrol Sierra revealed earlier this year, preserving the upright stance, full-width light bars front and rear, and the heritage-led three-window glasshouse that references the original Sierra. The fascia is the one area Tata has tweaked for the EV, using a different colour treatment on the closed-off grille section and bumper inserts to set it apart from the ICE car.

If you want a Sierra, the EV is the one to buy. The petrol car's NA 1.5 is the weak link the electric version sidesteps entirely.

Mechanically, the Sierra EV is expected to share its platform and powertrain hardware with the Harrier EV. That points to a dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration on the top variant, with battery options likely mirroring the Harrier EV's 65kWh and 75kWh packs. Single-motor rear-wheel-drive variants should anchor the range at the lower end. Tata has not officially confirmed battery sizes, motor outputs, or claimed range for the Sierra EV ahead of the launch event.

Pricing indications on listing platforms put the Sierra EV in the Rs 18.49 lakh to Rs 23.49 lakh ex-showroom bracket, which would slot it directly between the Curvv EV and the Harrier EV in Tata's electric SUV lineup. Final variant-wise pricing, range figures, and feature spread will be confirmed at the June 30 launch.

The Car Jury verdict

The Sierra EV arrives with a clear job: sit between the Curvv EV and Harrier EV, and give the nameplate the halo treatment Tata reserves for its electric flagships. If it borrows the Harrier EV's dual-motor AWD setup, as expected, this becomes the most capable Sierra Tata has ever sold, full stop. Biturbo Media's point that Tata builds its cars "like tanks" lands here, the Sierra's body structure already feels overbuilt for its class.

The catch is the ICE Sierra. Gagan Choudhary's drive of the 1.5 NA petrol Pure variant, and Rachit Hirani of MotorOctane refusing to even consider the non-turbo Sierra against a Seltos, tells you the petrol car has a powertrain problem the EV simply sidesteps. If you want a Sierra, wait the six days and buy the electric one. See our Harrier EV and Sierra reviews.
