Skoda is evaluating exports of the India-made Kylaq to European markets, according to fresh reports. The Volkswagen Group sees the sub-4-metre SUV as a counter to aggressive Chinese pricing in Europe, with an estimated sticker under Euro 20,000, roughly Rs 22.26 lakh, on the continent.

What was announced

Skoda launched the Kylaq in India in January 2025 as its first sub-4-metre SUV, built on the MQB-A0-IN platform shared with the Kushaq. Starting at Rs 7.59 lakh ex-showroom, it slots below the Kushaq and competes directly with the Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet. The SUV has crossed cumulative sales of 50,000 units and now contributes close to 60 percent of Skoda India's monthly volumes, making it the brand's bestseller and a regular fixture in the top 10 sub-4-metre SUV charts.

A Kylaq sold in Hamburg means tighter quality control in Pune and stronger residuals for the Indian owner who bought one in 2025.

According to reports, decision makers at Volkswagen Group are actively studying the Kylaq as an export candidate for European markets. The trigger is the pricing pressure from Chinese brands such as BYD, MG and Chery, which are flooding Europe with affordable electric and ICE crossovers. The Kylaq, with its sharp design, segment-first features and India-cost base, is being positioned as a possible answer in the entry-SUV space.

If green-lit, the Kylaq could be offered in Europe at under Euro 20,000, roughly Rs 22.26 lakh at current conversion. That would undercut most established European B-segment SUVs and arrive on showroom floors with full crash compliance, Euro 6e emissions tuning, and Skoda's existing European dealer network. The Kylaq is powered in India by a 1.0-litre TSI petrol producing 115 PS, paired with a 6-speed manual or torque converter automatic.

The Car Jury verdict

This is validation that Indian engineering and Indian factories can carry a Skoda badge into Europe without an asterisk. The Kylaq was built to a price for India, yet Faisal Khan of FasBeam captured the wider mood when he said Skoda has nailed the pricing on its current India range, a sentiment that applies squarely here. At Rs 7.59 lakh ex-showroom at home, it is already on our Kylaq review page, and at sub Euro 20,000 abroad, it undercuts every legacy rival there.

For Indian buyers, the read-across is simple. A Kylaq sold in Hamburg means tighter quality control in Pune, longer model life, and better residuals. If you are cross-shopping a Kushaq or Tata Sierra, the Kylaq just got a stronger long-term case.
