Nissan Tekton claims 19.4kpl: Duster's numbers with a Nissan badge

Nissan has published ARAI-claimed fuel-efficiency figures for the new Tekton midsize SUV, ranging from 17.8kpl to 19.4kpl depending on powertrain. The Tekton, which starts at Rs 10.49 lakh ex-showroom, shares its 1.0-litre and 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engines with the Renault Duster, and the numbers reflect that.
What was announced
Nissan has disclosed claimed fuel-efficiency numbers for the Tekton, its new midsize SUV built on the CMF-B platform shared with the Renault Duster. The SUV is offered with two turbo-petrol engines: a 1.0-litre three-cylinder producing 100hp and 166Nm, mated only to a 6-speed manual, and a 1.3-litre three-cylinder producing 163hp and 280Nm, available with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic. There is no diesel and no strong-hybrid option, in line with the Duster's India line-up.
Same engines, same gearboxes, near-identical mileage: the Tekton and Duster are the same car with different grilles, so pick on price and dealer reach.
| Powertrain | Tekton | Duster |
|---|---|---|
| 1.0 turbo-petrol MT (100hp) | 19.4 | 19.41 |
| 1.3 turbo-petrol MT (163hp) | 17.8 | 17.75 |
| 1.3 turbo-petrol DCT (163hp) | 18.5 | 18.45 |
Figures are ARAI-claimed. The 1.0-litre engine is not offered with an automatic gearbox at launch. Tekton prices start at Rs 10.49 lakh ex-showroom, matching the Duster's entry point.
The Car Jury verdict
The Tekton's economy sheet is the Duster's economy sheet with a rounding error. Same engines, same gearboxes, near-identical numbers: 19.4kpl on the 100hp 1.0 MT, 17.8kpl on the 163hp 1.3 MT, and 18.5kpl on the 1.3 DCT. Buyers cross-shopping the two should ignore mileage entirely and pick on price, warranty and dealer reach.
The bigger question is whether Nissan can justify the badge swap on features and pricing. As Biturbo Media put it while discussing another rebadge story, buyers rightly ask why a manufacturer brings a lightly-reskinned car to a segment where the donor already exists. Our Renault Duster review is a BUY; the Tekton needs to undercut it or out-equip it to earn the same call. On mileage alone, there is no reason to prefer one over the other.
