Kia Teases Sorento Hybrid For India: First Hybrid Kia, And The Priciest
Kia India has released an official teaser of the all-new Sorento, confirming its first hybrid SUV for the Indian market is weeks away. The seven-seater flagship will sit above the Carnival on price, and dealerships have already started accepting pre-launch bookings from interested buyers.

Kia India has published an official teaser confirming the launch of the all-new Sorento, the brand's first hybrid vehicle for the Indian market. The image shows the SUV under a black satin cover, with only the vertically stacked headlamps, LED DRLs and fog lamps visible. Kia has confirmed that interested buyers can walk into dealerships and pre-book the SUV ahead of its official launch.

The launch is expected within the next two months, though Kia has not shared a specific date. Multiple dealerships had already begun accepting unofficial bookings before the company formalised the pre-booking window this week. The Sorento will become the most expensive Kia sold in India when it goes on sale, positioned above the Carnival MPV in the brand's line-up.
Internationally, the current-generation Sorento is offered as a three-row seven-seater with a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol strong hybrid producing around 227 bhp combined, paired with a six-speed automatic. Global markets also get a plug-in hybrid and diesel option, though Kia India is expected to bring only the full-hybrid variant to start with. Design elements visible in the teaser suggest the India car retains the tall, upright global stance with the tiger-nose grille, vertical lighting signature and squared-off wheel arches. Minor market-specific tweaks are likely, in line with how Kia has localised the Seltos and Carens.

The Sorento matters for Kia India in a way the Carnival never did. It puts the brand into strong-hybrid territory dominated by Toyota and Maruti, in a segment where buyers actually cross-shop the Fortuner, Alcazar and the incoming Skoda Kodiaq. If Kia lands it below Rs 55 lakh with the full-hybrid powertrain from global markets, it becomes the default choice for a family that wants a diesel-Fortuner alternative without the running costs.
Team-BHP has consistently flagged how Kia's GT and X-line trims add showroom pull the core range lacks, and a hybrid Sorento X-Line would land squarely in that space.
