JSW Files Seven New Car Names, Combat And Adventura Hint At Rugged SUVs
JSW Motors, the standalone passenger vehicle arm separate from the JSW MG Motor India joint venture, has filed trademarks for seven new car nameplates ahead of its first launch expected before Diwali 2026. The names are Combat, Urbanique, Dominor, Adventura, Eleve, Sereno and Cadet.
What was announced
JSW Motors, the Sajjan Jindal-led group's independent passenger vehicle venture, is preparing to enter the Indian car market as a carmaker in its own right, separate from the JSW MG Motor India joint venture that currently sells the Windsor, ZS EV, Hector and Astor. The company has filed trademark applications for seven new nameplates ahead of its first product launch, targeted for before Diwali 2026.
Seven trademarked names is a naming shelf, not a product plan; only two or three will ever reach a boot lid.
The trademarked names are JSW Combat, JSW Adventura, JSW Dominor, JSW Sereno, JSW Cadet, JSW Urbanique and JSW Eleve. Trademark filings do not guarantee that every name reaches production; they may be used for cars, variants or vehicle-related services, and some are typically defensive filings.
The naming pattern suggests a spread of positioning. Combat and Adventura carry rugged, outdoorsy connotations that would suit body-on-frame or lifestyle SUVs. Urbanique and Sereno lean towards urban crossovers or softer family cars. Cadet reads as an entry-level or compact nameplate, while Dominor and Eleve sit closer to aspirational or premium positioning.
JSW Motors has an announced partnership with Chinese automaker Chery, under which it will localise Chery products for the Indian market. One of the first vehicles expected from this partnership is a petrol-hybrid SUV that has already been spied testing in India. The first JSW-badged model is targeted to hit showrooms before the 2026 festive season, giving the company under two months to reveal specifications, pricing and dealer network details.
The Car Jury verdict
Seven trademarks is a shotgun filing, not a product plan. JSW is protecting a naming shelf before its Chery-derived first car lands, and only two or three of these will ever see a boot lid. Combat and Adventura clearly point at a rugged SUV pitch, Urbanique and Sereno at softer urban crossovers, and Cadet at something entry-level. That is a full portfolio blueprint on paper.
The real question is whether JSW-badged Chery products, sold alongside JSW MG's own showrooms, will confuse the same buyer twice. MG's current India range is already asking buyers to hold, our reads on the MG Windsor EV and MG Hector are both WAIT. Adding a parallel JSW-branded Chinese lineup before the MG side stabilises risks splitting attention. Names are cheap; a coherent brand story is not.
