Tata Motors has dropped a new promo film of the Sierra EV climbing the Tal Moreeb dune in Abu Dhabi, and the footage quietly confirms three production details the brand had not previously shown: Harrier EV-derived Terrain Modes, a dedicated Boost Mode, and an indicated range comfortably north of 500 km.

What was announced

The new film shows the production-spec Sierra EV climbing the Tal Moreeb sand dune, one of the steepest competitive dune climbs in the UAE. During the ascent, the digital instrument cluster clearly displays Sand Mode active, confirming that the Sierra EV will ship with multiple Terrain Modes broadly derived from the Harrier EV's drive-mode suite. Expect Normal, Wet, Sand, Mud Ruts and Rock Crawl options on the production car, selectable via a rotary on the centre console.

Boost Mode and Sand Mode on a dual-motor Quad Wheel Drive Sierra EV is the first time the badge has been earned electrically, not just borrowed.

The second reveal is Boost Mode. Before the steep section of the climb, the cluster flashes a "Boost Mode Activated" prompt, after which the SUV accelerates noticeably harder. The implication is a temporary overboost function that unlocks peak combined motor output for short bursts, useful for steep inclines, deep sand and highway overtakes. This pairs with the previously confirmed dual-motor Quad Wheel Drive (QWD) layout, where a motor on each axle delivers full-time all-wheel drive without a mechanical transfer case.

The range indicator visible in the video sits above the 500 km mark on what appears to be a full charge, pointing to a usable battery in the 75 kWh region, likely shared with the Harrier EV's larger pack. Tata has not yet disclosed final battery capacity, peak power, 0-100 km/h time or pricing. The Sierra EV is expected to launch in India ahead of the ICE Sierra, with bookings opening closer to the festive window.

The Car Jury verdict

The Sierra EV is shaping up exactly the way the nameplate deserves. Boost Mode and Sand Mode are not gimmicks on an EV with a dual-motor Quad Wheel Drive layout; they are the difference between a soft-roader badge job and an SUV that can actually justify the Sierra name on a dune or a rutted ghat section. Tata's recent EV track record backs this up. As Biturbo Media puts it, "one strong point we always see with Tata is that they build their cars like tanks," and the Harrier EV has already proven the Quad Wheel Drive hardware on tarmac and trail.

If Tata prices the dual-motor Sierra EV within striking distance of the Harrier EV, it becomes the default choice in the sub-Rs 35 lakh electric SUV bracket, ahead of the Curvv EV. Wait for the launch variant sheet, then buy.
