Mercedes India posts record H1 2026: E-Class leads, EQS SUV tops EV chart

Mercedes-Benz India has posted its best-ever first half, selling 9,768 units between January and June 2026, up 9 percent year on year. Q2 alone contributed 4,238 units, a 10 percent gain. The E450 remains the volume driver, while the EQS SUV leads the brand's electric tally.
What was announced
Mercedes-Benz India has confirmed total H1 2026 (January to June) sales of 9,768 units, a 9 percent rise over H1 2025 and its highest-ever first half. Q2 2026 contributed 4,238 units, up 10 percent year on year and also a Q2 record. The company credits the CLA Electric and the V-Class as the primary volume drivers for the quarter.
A quarter of Mercedes' top-end sales in India are now electric, and the car leading that charge costs more than a crore.
The E-Class, specifically the E450, is Mercedes India's single bestselling car in H1 2026, confirming that the long-wheelbase sedan built at Chakan remains the backbone of the brand's India business. The Top-end Luxury portfolio, which bundles the V-Class, Maybach models, EQS SUV and the AMG range, grew over 20 percent and now accounts for 28 percent of total sales. Mercedes-AMG on its own grew 50 percent year on year.
Electric vehicles made up 25 percent of Top-end Luxury sales, with the EQS SUV finishing as the bestselling Mercedes-Benz BEV of the half. The line-up spans from the CLA Electric at the entry point to the EQS SUV at the top of the electric range. All figures are wholesale dispatches to dealers reported by Mercedes-Benz India, not registration data.
The Car Jury verdict
This is not a fluke; it is a shape change. A quarter of Mercedes' top-end sales are now electric, and the EQS SUV, a car well past Rs 1.5 crore on-road, is the bestselling Merc BEV. Gagan Choudhary of Gagan Choudhary captures the buyer psychology: at Rs 50-60 lakh, shoppers agonise till the last minute, but past a crore, conviction returns and EVs are firmly in play.
For buyers looking below the E-Class, the volume story sits with the GLC, GLA and GLB, all of which carry a TCJ BUY. Discounts will be scarce in a record year; if you want one, negotiate on accessories and finance, not sticker. Waiting for a slowdown is wishful thinking.
