Maruti Serviced 2.84 Crore Cars in FY26: The Real Moat Isn't Sales

Maruti Suzuki India Limited has disclosed that it serviced more than 2.84 crore vehicles in FY26, the highest annual service volume the carmaker has ever handled. The work was distributed across 5,926 service touchpoints spanning urban and rural India, covering scheduled maintenance, repairs and inspections.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has reported its highest-ever annual service volume, attending to more than 2.84 crore vehicles during FY26. The company confirms this is the largest single-year service load it has handled, a function of both an expanding parc of Maruti cars on Indian roads and rising frequency of workshop visits as vehicles age through their ownership cycle.

Rivals can match Maruti's engines and even its prices, but they cannot replicate 5,926 service touchpoints overnight.

The work was carried out across 5,926 service touchpoints nationwide. These include full workshop facilities as well as smaller customer service locations, distributed across metros, tier-2 and tier-3 cities, and rural pockets. MSIL is emphasising that this geographical spread, rather than concentration in a few large hubs, is what allows it to handle volumes at this scale. The touchpoints cover scheduled maintenance, mechanical repairs, body and paint work, periodic inspections and warranty-related claims.

The carmaker has flagged three pillars supporting this load: trained manpower, standardised service processes, and software systems that handle job cards, parts inventory and customer communication. MSIL has not broken out the FY26 number by service type, by region, or by labour versus parts revenue, and has not disclosed average revenue per service visit. Industry context: Maruti's installed base in India is comfortably the largest of any carmaker, which makes after-sales a recurring revenue stream that is structurally insulated from monthly retail volatility. The 5,926 figure also gives the brand a footprint advantage over every challenger, including Hyundai, Tata and Mahindra, in the pure reach metric.

The Car Jury verdict

Forget the monthly sales charts for a moment. A 2.84 crore service throughput in a single year is the number that should worry every rival boardroom from Chakan to Sriperumbudur. Motor Inc notes that Maruti is "always the one that will be talking about efficiency" and is often "perceived as boring except for a few highlights." Boring is exactly the point. A buyer in a tier-3 town picks a Swift or a Brezza because the workshop is fifteen minutes away and the spares are in stock.

Biturbo Media's blunt line that "most of the cars in the A-segment are from Maruti" is a symptom of this moat, not the cause. Rivals can match the engine; they cannot match 5,926 touchpoints overnight. Until they do, Maruti's pricing power and resale strength stay intact, EV stumbles like the e-Vitara notwithstanding.
