Kia India's Best-Ever May: 27,586 Units, Up 24% YoY

Kia India closed May 2026 with 27,586 wholesale dispatches, its highest-ever May tally since entering the country. The number is 23.62% higher than May 2025's 22,315 units and 1.10% ahead of April 2026's 27,286 units. The Seltos, Sonet, Carens Clavis, Clavis EV and updated Syros carried the month.
What was announced
Kia India reported wholesale dispatches of 27,586 units in May 2026, the brand's highest-ever May volume since it began India operations. The number is up 23.62% over the 22,315 units dispatched in May 2025, and 1.10% ahead of the 27,286 units recorded in April 2026, a gain of roughly 300 units month-on-month.
Kia's May record is real, but the Seltos is doing too much of the work for the brand to call this a balanced portfolio win.
The company attributes the run-rate to sustained demand across its SUV and MPV portfolio. The updated Seltos remains the single largest contributor, and Kia says the mid-size SUV has consistently crossed the 10,000-unit monthly mark since its latest update went on sale. The Sonet continues to anchor the sub-four-metre compact SUV segment, while the Carens Clavis, the Clavis EV and the MY26 Syros are now adding incremental volume on top of the established nameplates.
| Period | Units | Change |
|---|---|---|
| May 2026 | 27,586 | Best-ever May |
| April 2026 | 27,286 | +1.10% MoM vs May |
| May 2025 | 22,315 | +23.62% YoY in May 2026 |
Figures are wholesale dispatches to dealers as reported by Kia India, not retail registrations.
The Car Jury verdict
The headline number is healthy, but the real story is concentration. Kia is back near the top of the mid-size SUV charts because the updated Seltos is doing the heavy lifting, and the brand itself says the SUV has crossed 10,000 units a month consistently since the refresh. That is a single-model dependency, not a portfolio win. Gagan Choudhary put the segment logic plainly, noting that the 1.5 NA petrol in cars like the Seltos is clearly the most in-demand engine in this space. Biturbo Media's shortlist for the segment also opens with the Seltos. Our own Seltos verdict is a BUY, and the Sonet and Carens remain BUYs too. Kia's May number is earned. The Syros and Clavis EV still need to prove they can carry weight when Seltos demand normalises.
