2026 Tata Tiago Lands From Rs 4.69 Lakh: Safer Shell, Smarter Cabin, Still The Value Pick

Tata Motors has launched the updated Tiago hatchback in Petrol, iCNG and Electric guises with a redesigned cabin, fresh exterior detailing and a reinforced body shell. Petrol prices start at Rs 4.69 lakh ex-showroom, while the twin-cylinder iCNG range opens at Rs 5.79 lakh, spread across six trims from Smart to Creative+.
What was announced
Tata Motors has rolled out the 2026 Tiago across Petrol, iCNG and Electric powertrains, with comprehensive exterior changes, a completely revised cabin and several segment-first features. The headline change is structural: the roll cage has been reinforced and Tata has increased the use of high-strength materials in the body shell, pitching the car as one of the safest hatchbacks in its segment.
At Rs 4.69 lakh, the Tiago is still the most structurally serious car you can buy in this price band.
At the Delhi launch, Tata staged a dual crash demonstration on the iCNG variant. The same car was first subjected to a frontal pole impact, then struck on the side by another Tiago, to showcase the integrity of the shell and the safety of the twin-cylinder CNG layout that sits under the boot floor.
The range is offered in six trims: Smart, Pure, Pure+, Pure+A, Creative and Creative+. Pricing is as follows.
| Powertrain | Starting price |
|---|---|
| Petrol | Rs 4.69 lakh |
| iCNG (twin-cylinder) | Rs 5.79 lakh |
Trim-wise pricing for Pure, Pure+, Pure+A, Creative and Creative+ will follow as Tata publishes the full price list. Electric variant pricing is announced separately.
The Car Jury verdict
The Tiago does not need to be reinvented, it needs to stay relevant, and this update does exactly that. The reinforced roll cage, wider use of high-strength steel and Tata's public dual-crash demo for the iCNG (frontal pole plus side impact from another Tiago) are aimed squarely at buyers who would otherwise default to a Maruti Wagon R or Celerio. At Rs 4.69 lakh for petrol and Rs 5.79 lakh for CNG, the Tiago is still the most structurally serious car you can buy in this price band.
Rachit Hirani of MotorOctane confirmed the launch from Delhi, and the segment context is clear: as Biturbo Media notes, the Tiago and Renault Kwid anchor what is left of the entry hatchback space. If you want a safe, no-drama first car under Rs 6 lakh, this is the one. BUY.
