Tata Tiago Facelift Spied Undisguised: Sharper Face, But Wait For The Full Picture On May 28

The facelifted Tata Tiago and Tiago EV have been photographed without camouflage during a TVC shoot in Mumbai, three days before their May 28, 2026 launch. The cosmetic overhaul is real, the silhouette is familiar, and the EV finally looks visually distinct from the petrol car. Our early verdict: this is the right kind of update for a hatchback that has been quietly losing relevance, but hold your booking until prices land.

The Car Jury verdict

The Tiago has been Tata's volume anchor at the entry end for years, and the segment around it has shrunk. The new face, sharper LED headlamps with integrated DRLs, and the closed-off vertical-pattern grille on the EV are exactly the cues this car needed to stop looking like a 2020 product in 2026 showrooms. Distinguishing the EV from the ICE visually is overdue, and Tata has finally done it.

That said, the bigger question is pricing and feature spread, not styling. Tata's recent launches have shown a clear pattern of pushing on-road prices upward fast; Faisal Khan of FasBeam noted that the Tata Sierra range starts at Rs 13.58 lakh on-road Mumbai, and the Punch and Nexon have both crept up over their lifecycles. If the facelifted Tiago EV crosses Rs 10 lakh on-road for the long-range variant, the Citroen eC3 and the used Tiago EV market start looking sensible.

Our call: this is a cosmetic refresh worth waiting three days for, not a reason to lock a pre-launch booking. If your budget can stretch, the Tata Curvv EV and Harrier EV remain stronger Tata EV bets today.

What was announced

Tata Motors will launch the facelifted Tiago and Tiago EV on May 28, 2026. Ahead of the official price announcement, both hatchbacks have been spied completely undisguised in Mumbai during what appears to be a television commercial shoot. The images reveal multiple body colours, fresh styling details, and a clearer view of the final production design.

The biggest change is the redesigned front fascia. Both the ICE and EV versions get sharper LED headlamps with integrated DRL signatures and a cleaner design language. The Tiago EV adopts a closed-off grille layout with vertically patterned detailing to distinguish it from the petrol car, which retains a more conventional grille treatment. Both versions feature vertical inserts on the bumper edges. The overall silhouette, doors, and greenhouse appear carried over from the current car, confirming this is a facelift rather than a generation change.

Interior revisions are expected alongside the exterior update, though the spy images focus largely on the exterior. Tata is likely to retain the existing 1.2-litre Revotron petrol and CNG options on the ICE Tiago, while the Tiago EV is expected to continue with its medium-range and long-range battery configurations. Pricing, variant structure, and the full feature list will be confirmed at the May 28 launch event. The current Tiago starts at Rs 5 lakh ex-showroom, while the Tiago EV starts at around Rs 7.99 lakh ex-showroom.
