Mahindra Vision S Spied In Bengaluru: Sub-4m SUV On New NU IQ Platform

Fresh spy shots from Bengaluru show Mahindra's upcoming Vision S testing in city traffic, wearing production-ready headlights and LED DRLs under heavy camouflage. The boxy sub-4 metre SUV is expected to be the first model built on Mahindra's new NU IQ multi-energy platform, previewed alongside the Vision X, T and SXT concepts.
What was announced
Automotive enthusiast Venkatesh T photographed the Vision S test mule moving through Bengaluru traffic. The camouflage is still heavy across the body, but the front end now carries what appear to be production-intent headlamp units with integrated LED daytime running lights, replacing the placeholder clusters seen on earlier mules. The overall silhouette remains upright and boxy, in keeping with the Vision S concept shown at the Freedom NU event last year.
Vision S is Mahindra's chance to build a genuine sub-4m SUV instead of a chopped crossover, but only if pricing stays under Rs 10 lakh.
Key visible hardware includes a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, a proper SUV stance with visible ground clearance, and roof and windscreen sensors consistent with an ADAS suite. The Vision S is expected to be the first production model built on Mahindra's new NU IQ multi-energy platform, which is designed to support petrol, diesel, CNG, hybrid and electric powertrains on the same underpinnings. Vision X, Vision T and Vision SXT concepts, shown alongside it at Freedom NU, will follow.
Mahindra has not confirmed the production name. Speculation within the enthusiast community centres on a revival of the Scorpio badge for the sub-4 metre segment, with Scorpio S or Scorpio Sport floated as possibilities. Positioning would place it below the Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic, competing directly with the Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet. No official launch timeline, pricing or powertrain details have been shared by Mahindra yet.
The Car Jury verdict
The Vision S matters more than the average spy shot because it is the first production car off NU IQ, the flexible architecture Mahindra showed at Freedom NU. A boxy sub-4m SUV with a tailgate-mounted spare, ADAS hardware and proper ground clearance is exactly the white space between the Brezza-Nexon crowd and the Scorpio N. Team-BHP rightly cautions that Mahindra's earlier sub-4m body-on-frame attempts, the Quanto and Novo Sport, never went mainstream, so nostalgia for a Scorpio Sport nameplate is not a guarantee of success.
The bigger question is pricing discipline. Rachit Hirani of MotorOctane and Faisal Khan of FasBeam both point out that Mahindra's own BE6 and XEV 9E already crowd the mid-twenties. Vision S has to start under Rs 10 lakh to make sense.
