Mercedes' AI XENTRY Scanner Lands in Mumbai: Service Theatre or Real Fix?

Mercedes-Benz India has switched on the XENTRY Scanner, an AI-powered vehicle inspection rig, at the new Landmark Cars workshop in Jogeshwari, Mumbai. The system photographs a car from every angle as it rolls in, flagging exterior damage in minutes. The 58,000 sq. ft. facility is now the brand's largest in Mumbai.
What was announced
Mercedes-Benz India has unveiled the XENTRY Scanner, described by the brand as an MRI-style diagnostic gate for cars, at its newly opened service centre run by Landmark Cars in Jogeshwari, Mumbai. As a vehicle enters the workshop, it passes under a 360-degree rig comprising 13 high-resolution cameras and a LiDAR unit, which together capture the car's exterior condition and flag damage within minutes. Mercedes says it is the only such installation in India at present.
A 13-camera LiDAR gate at workshop entry ends the post-service scratch dispute; it does not shrink the invoice at the end of the job.
The Jogeshwari centre itself is the headline. Spanning roughly 58,000 sq. ft., it is Mercedes-Benz India's largest workshop in Mumbai. The layout includes 16 preventive maintenance and general repair bays, 9 body and paint bays, and 9 supporting bays, backed by a dedicated 6,000 sq. ft. spare-parts warehouse to reduce turnaround time on common jobs.
Alongside the scanner, Mercedes-Benz India has introduced Service Select, a new after-sales package aimed specifically at older Mercedes vehicles that are outside the standard service plan window. The scheme is pitched at owners of cars that have aged out of factory maintenance packs and now face variable workshop bills. Mercedes has not yet published a national rollout schedule for either the XENTRY Scanner hardware or Service Select at other dealer workshops.
The Car Jury verdict
Mercedes buyers in Mumbai finally get an inspection process that documents a car's condition before it disappears into a workshop bay, and that alone is worth the fuss. Owner disputes over fresh scratches and chipped alloys post-service are the single most common complaint against luxury workshops in India, and a 13-camera LiDAR record kills that argument on arrival. What it does not do is fix the bigger problem, which is the cost of a Mercedes service itself.
Rachit Hirani of MotorOctane has flagged that the incoming S-Class Plug-in Hybrid and the wider Mercedes lineup are moving further upmarket, and running costs are moving with them. The XENTRY scanner is a genuine transparency upgrade for existing owners of the GLA, GLB and GLC. Judge the Service Select scheme on its bill, not the camera rig.
